Arthrostim® Adjusting in San Antonio

A Gentler Way to Make an Adjustment

Some people are perfectly comfortable with a traditional chiropractic adjustment. Others would rather skip the twisting, cracking, and popping altogether.
Arthrostim® gives Dr. Dean Odmark a different option. In fact, it’s the instrument-assisted technique he uses most often at Lifestyle Chiropractic.

What Is Arthrostim®?

Arthrostim is a handheld electronic adjusting instrument that applies a rapid series of small impulses to a targeted joint.
Instead of using one larger manual movement, the instrument delivers repeated, controlled taps. The manufacturer describes it as having variable amplitude, allowing the practitioner to change the amount of force being delivered, as well as use it in a variety of patient positions.
For the patient, it generally feels more like rapid tapping than a traditional adjustment.

Why Dr. Odmark Uses It

Control is a big part of the appeal. Dr. Odmark can start with very low force and increase the pressure when appropriate for the person and joint being addressed.
The instrument’s rapid repetitive action is designed to work through joint resistance while keeping each impulse relatively small. Arthrostim devices are designed to deliver multiple thrusts per second rather than a single thrust.
That gives Dr. Odmark another way to mobilize a joint without relying on a larger manual movement.

Not Just for the Spine

Although chiropractic often brings the spine to mind first, Dr. Odmark uses Arthrostim for joint-related concerns throughout the body.
Its adjustable force also makes it useful when someone wants or requires a gentler approach. Children, older adults, and people with reduced bone density may all be considered for instrument-assisted adjusting based on their individual needs.

What About Cracking and Popping?

If those sounds or movements make you uneasy, tell us. Arthrostim allows Dr. Odmark to work without the twisting or snapping associated with some manual methods.
The goal isn’t to make every patient adapt to one technique. It’s to choose an approach that suits the person in front of him.
