Jaffe-Mellor Technique (JMT) in San Antonio
When stiff, uncomfortable joints keep interfering with everyday life, it can be discouraging to feel as though you’re revisiting the same problem over and over. Jaffe-Mellor Technique, usually shortened to JMT, gives Dr. Dean Odmark another way to evaluate chronic joint concerns at Lifestyle Chiropractic.
Dr. Odmark most often uses JMT with people dealing with arthritis and longer-term symptoms.
What Is JMT?
JMT is generally described as a bioenergetic technique combining muscle testing with acupressure. It has historically been associated particularly with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other complex health concerns.
In Dr. Odmark’s office, the process incorporates test samples, Muscle Response Testing (MRT), acupressure points, and spinal points.
Rather than simply treating whichever joint hurts most, he first uses MRT while you’re exposed to different vials. This helps him determine whether the JMT approach appears appropriate for the areas being evaluated.
What Happens During a Visit?
Your first appointment is partly investigative. Dr. Odmark tests different responses with MRT and looks for areas that show weakness.
When testing indicates an area to address, he uses specific acupressure and spinal points as part of the process. The aim is to reduce chronic symptoms while encouraging better joint and spinal function.
The acupressure portion involves no needles. Pressure is applied to selected points based on what the testing indicates.
Is It Just for Arthritis?
Arthritis is the main concern Dr. Odmark specifically identifies with JMT, and it’s also one of the conditions historically associated with the technique. Rather than expanding that into a long list of unrelated conditions, he determines whether JMT makes sense based on your individual presentation and testing.
How Long Does JMT Care Take?
Unlike some services that may be used for only a handful of visits, JMT generally involves a longer course. Dr. Odmark typically recommends around 15 to 20 treatments, although that isn’t an automatic prescription for everyone.
Your response along the way helps shape how the plan progresses.
